Save the date for ATL + WACC 2026 – Heart. Mind. Community.

ATL + WACC 2026 conference logo: Heart. Mind. Community. with a heart icon

Mark your calendars and plan to join us April 29th – May 1st for ATL + WACC 2026!

  • This conference is a 2 ½ day virtual event bringing together Washington’s most beloved annual conferences—SBCTC’s Assessment, Teaching, and Learning (ATL) Conference and the ELC’s Washington’s Canvas Conference (WACC)—to explore the intersections of assessment, teaching, learning, and technology.
  • This year’s theme, “Heart. Mind. Community.” focuses on supporting one another, growing together, and building a stronger human-centered working and learning ecosystem. Come engage with colleagues from across the state and leave with fresh ideas and practical strategies that make a difference for students—and the people who serve them.

Why did we merge?

  • Planning a statewide conference takes significant time and resources. Merging ATL and WACC lets us pool effort, lower costs, reduce attendance barriers, and strengthen connection across our system.

What can you expect?

  • Inclusive Access. We’re keeping the conference online to ensure participation is accessible and affordable for everyone.
  • Streamlined Registration. We’re offering user-friendly registration to save time, money, and paperwork.
  • Deep Dive Sessions. We’re planning focused pre-conference sessions for deeper learning on selected topics.
  • Hot Topics. We’re digging into key topics in Higher Education—Exhaustion & Burn Out, Inclusive Pedagogy, Generative AI, and Digital Accessibility.
  • Inspiring Keynotes. We’re featuring high-quality speakers with timely, Washington-relevant topics and practical takeaways.
  • Community Connections. We’re developing virtual and in-person opportunities to connect and network.

We’re committed to you!

  • Continuous Improvement. We’re committed to learning from your feedback and annually refining the conference to meet your needs.
  • Inclusive and High-Quality Learning. Our goal is to deliver meaningful, engaging, and accessible learning and networking opportunities for all participants.

Watch for more information coming soon!

WACC 2024 Keynotes

You won’t want to miss these empowering WACC 2024 keynotes with Dr. Jenni Hayman and Brinda Sivaramakrishnan!

Empower – verb /ɛmˈpaʊər/: the act of inspiring or motivating individuals to believe in themselves, their potential, and their ability to effect positive change

Washington’s Annual Canvas Conference (WACC 2024)

Join us in-person March 27th – 28th at Tacoma College or virtually in Zoom for two days of EMPOWER-ing! keynote presentations.

Day 1| Dr. Jenni Hayman

Headshot of Dr. Jenni Hayman smiling. Jenni wears glasses and has light eyes, very short grey hair, and a fair complexion.

Empowering Education Through Generosity

The evolving dynamics of higher education and generosity play a pivotal role in empowering learners,, educators, and institutions. Generosity is the sharing of knowledge, sharing of power, and the co-creation of policy and process with learners and colleagues. It is the heart of open education, equity, diversity, and inclusion, genuine collaboration, and flexible, successful, technology-enriched teaching and learning. It is the heart of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. Join us to envision and actively engage with a flexible and adaptable generosity-oriented education model that empowers us, our colleagues, our institutions, and most especially our learners to succeed.

Day 2| Brinda Sivaramakrishnan

Headshot of Dr. Brinda Sivaramakrishnan smiling. Brinda has dark eyes, long dark hair, and an olive complexion.

Tapping into Collective Consciousness

A missing feature in mainstream academia is acknowledging the empowering aspect of community healing that is foundational in most worldviews and cultures. The challenging work of dismantling harmful institutional precedents and building strong campuses calls for a space to reflect. Join us for a gathering that provides time to honor our individual experiences, engage in deep rest, and restore our energy reserves with breath and meditation techniques coming from an ancient lineage. Enjoy this hour empowering with a facilitator who is authentically connected to the lineage and ceremony behind the techniques.

WACC Schedule is Now Live!

Register today!

Greetings attendees (and potential attendees).

The schedule for WACC is linked below. There may be a bit of juggling or adjusting before the conference, but this should be pretty close to a final version.

Click here to view/download the schedule

We have a great conference planned, including session tracks on technology, equity, pedagogy/andragogy, and everyone’s favorite track – “other”. (Actually, the “other” tracks look pretty cool. I might meet you in one of them).

In addition to the fabulous sessions, we have two great keynote speakers, a Canvas Roadmap session, where Instructure gives you a sneak peek of what you can expect from Canvas in the future.

Finally, don’t forget the social aspect. Now that we are all let out of our houses, this is chance to reconnect with old friends, make some new friends, buttonhole that super presenter you were so excited by, and network with your peers from the CTC system and beyond. In addition to the breakfast, lunch, and extended breaks, we’ve got a social hour planned for Thursday after the conference. Look for updates on entertainment and noshing opportunities in the near future.

We’ll send updates out, but also add information on our FAQ page, such as the best swag ever (at least it better be – I browbeat a committee to choose them).

If you haven’t registered yet, here’s that link one more time. Looking forward to seeing you!

One month to go!!!

March 30th – 31st at Renton Technical College

Flexible Learning EXperiences (FLEX) Project

At Renton Technical College (RTC), FLEX is an acronym for Flexible Learning Experiences. FLEX courses are designed with an active learning instructional model and are supported by familiar technologies such as Canvas and Zoom. The FLEX modality empowers students to move toward success no matter what life events come their way and it promotes flexibility in learning on multiple levels leading students toward a more personalized learning experience. Join Yun to learn more about RTC’s student choice modality that allows students to decide on any given day whether to attend class in-person, virtually, or asynchronously – with little or no difference in their learning.

Designing for Academic Integrity: From Honorlock to Honor Code

“Designing for Academic Integrity: From Honorlock to Honor Code” represents a framework for transparently modeling values of academic honor and integrity in online courses. Honor Codes have existed for decades, and the concept of creating a climate of trust is a goal in most classes.  Join Stephanie to learn how her approach to Designing for Academic Integrity blends universal ideas of trust, honesty, and transparency into a grounded pedagogical framework and how her integrated approach draws students into the creation of the classroom culture as they learn about academic integrity while developing a personal honor code that is used to establish classroom norms.

WACCy Wednesday Webinar – Game Over: Why your attempts to gamify your course don’t work (and how to fix it)

an open laptop computer with Canvas logo on screen and text to the right reading "WACCy Wednesday Webinars presented by the Washington State eLearning Council"

WACCy Wednesdays continue!  In lieu of the annual in-person Washington Canvas Conference (WACC), the eLearning Council (ELC) is pleased to offer a second season of free WACCy Wednesday Webinars. Please join us for the second webinar in this series.

  • Wednesday, February 23rd
  • Noon – 1:00 PM

Game Over: Why your attempts to gamify your course don’t work (and how to fix it)

How can you, as an educator, consistently balance an intellectually rigorous course that produces exceptional learning, promotes equity in your classroom, and engages students? Gamification could be the answer, but attempts to gamify learning frequently end in poor, inequitable returns, or even outright failure. Why? Game designer Jeremy Winn breaks down the reasons why an incomplete understanding of the principles of gamification results in hours of wasted effort and why successful gamification is simpler than you think.  Jeremy will walk you through the creation of your very own gamified assessment. Bring a learning goal to work with!

Headshot of Jeremy Winn. Jeremy has dark hair and a beard with a mustache. He is wearing glasses and a shirt and tie.
